What does CPD stand for?+
CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development.
What is Continuing Professional Development (CPD)?+
CPD is skills-based learning. It helps you advance in your profession by improving your skills in a particular field, and encourages the training and development of vocational skills. On-the-job learning, projects, research, conferences, mentoring, volunteering, technical learning and management training can all count as genuine CPD.
What is CPDQC?+
CPD Quality Certification (CPDQC) is an independent CPD accreditation body. We accredit training providers, trainers, companies and organisations, and give learners one place to keep track of their CPD.
Is CPD a qualification?+
No. A CPD certificate is not a regulated qualification in the way GCSEs (Ofqual-regulated) or NVQs are. It certifies that a learning activity has met the standards for continuing professional development.
What are CPD points?+
CPD points reflect the time spent learning on a CPD-recognised activity. In the UK, one hour of active learning generally equals one CPD point. Many professions — including nursing and care — require a set number of CPD points each year.
Is CPD equivalent to an NVQ or GCSE?+
They can’t be compared directly. CPD is measured by the hours spent on a learning activity, while NVQs and GCSEs are qualifications built on national standards and formal assessment.
